Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Panic spread in the Hatishala Dakshinpara area of Bhangar after several fresh bombs were recovered from a bamboo grove on Thursday morning. Local residents first noticed suspicious objects inside the grove around 7 am and alerted authorities, fearing they could be explosives. The discovery triggered tension in the area, especially with elections approaching.
Police from the Polerhat police station quickly reached the spot after receiving the information and cordoned off the entire area. A search operation was launched, during which several crude bombs were recovered from the bamboo garden. An expert bomb disposal team was informed to safely defuse the explosives while authorities began examining the nature and strength of the devices. Investigators are trying to determine how long the bombs had been stored in the area and for what purpose they were kept. Police teams are also conducting thorough searches in the surrounding locality to check if any additional explosives are hidden nearby. Officials said further forensic examination may be carried out if required.
The incident has already sparked political tension in the region. The Indian Secular Front alleged that Trinamool Congress workers had stored the bombs to create unrest ahead of the elections, while the Trinamool Congress rejected the claim and countered that ISF supporters were responsible. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area and patrols increased as authorities continue the investigation.
